Electrifying: German Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) receives two ID. Buzz1 minivans from Volkswagen Financial Services (VW FS) and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV)

The fully electric ID. Buzz symbolizes the future of what is already a 15-year collaboration with NABU and forms part of this mobility partnership

Vehicles in a special design: moorland protection and river renaturation reflect the cooperation priorities and the essential pillars of the VW FS commitment to the environment

Braunschweig/Hannover/Berlin, 9 November 2023. NABU – Germany's largest nature conservation organization – is now driving Volkswagen ID. Buzz1. Dr. Christian Dahlheim, CEO of Volkswagen Financial Services AG, and Karl Bernqvist, Brand Management Board Member for Procurement at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, have handed over two all-electric ID. Buzz minivans to NABU Federal Managing Director Leif Miller. The vehicles are one element of the partnership that has already been in place for 15 years between Volkswagen Financial Services and the German environmental associa-tion. Both vehicles have been given labels adorned with a common slogan, which translates as: "We protect moors and rivers – for the climate and for biodiversity". The display clearly points to the two focus areas of the collaboration: moorland protection and river renaturation.

"Our long-standing partnership with NABU is of great importance to us and is also an integral part of our sustainability strategy. The two ID. Buzz vehicles are a strong symbol of our joint commitment," said Dr. Christian Dahlheim, the Chairman of the Management Board of Volkswagen Financial Services AG.

"We have shared a commitment to moorland protection with Volkswagen Financial Services for 15 years now," noted Leif Miller, the Federal Managing Director of NABU. He went on to point out: "The NABU Moorland Protection Fund, which was established in 2008, marked the beginning of nature conservation projects with a positive climate impact in Germany. We are pleased to have jointly revitalized 13 moors with a total area of over 670 hectares since then, and we are eagerly looking forward to further projects. The new electric minivans will be very helpful for our work in the mostly remote project areas."

At the handover of the vehicles in Berlin, Karl Bernqvist, VWCV Brand Board Member, explained: "The ID. Buzz is a great ambassador for electromobility. Being locally emission-free and with many sustainable features that we were able to implement in a transport van for the first time, our all-electric minivan is the perfect vehicle for NABU. With the special cooperation design, both vehicles will generate a lot of positive attention."

Miller took delivery of the two ID. Buzz models in front of the NABU Federal Office in the Berlin-Mitte district of the capital.

Volkswagen Financial Services and NABU have been working together in a project and dialog partnership for around 15 years. In addition to the protection and rewetting of moorland, the focus is on the renaturation of rivers. Most recently, a sub-project within the framework of the River Aller renaturation project was successfully completed. Since 2008, the financial com-mitment of Volkswagen Financial Services has amounted to more than seven million euros. Further major projects are already being planned.
